Don’t Teach Kids Bullfighting

At Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas in Madrid

Target: Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, Spain’s Minister for Education

Goal: Do not allow bullfighting classes to be taught in schools.

A bullfighting course may soon be an option for 15- to 17-year-old boys to take at school. We need to take action to try and ensure more helpless animals will not be abused in this unforgivable manner.

Conservatives argue that the class would be helpful to kids who are thinking about attending a vocational school rather than going to college. However, people who are opposed explain that allowing this to take place would be teaching kids how to abuse animals by means of a sport that is seen more today as an animal cruelty issue than it is as a captivating tradition. They also feel that allowing regions to hold such a course in schools is just an excuse to try and bring back fondness for the sport to Spain’s overall society.

Urge the ministry of education to support not allowing this course to be taught in schools. Animals do not deserve to be viciously chased and stabbed for recreational sport.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Vigo,

It is appalling that young boys may soon be able to learn how to abuse animals through the dated sport of bullfighting in schools. Such a course should not be offered in order to spare these bulls from enduring such blatant animal cruelty.

While you may argue that such a course could be helpful to boys who are thinking about attending vocational school instead of college, it is likely they will not have an easy time finding work since bullfighting is now a dying art. Furthermore, allowing such a class to be taught seems like a desperate attempt to try and once again gain support for an activity that most people in Spain and otherwise no longer see as ethical.

I therefore urge you to support and advocate for bullfighting not to be taught to young boys in schools. Children should not be taught that this or any other type of animal abuse is OK and bulls don’t deserve to needlessly suffer.

Sincerely,

This move is disgusting! Why would you want to teach children how to abuse animals?? The only time I’d like to hear about bullfighting would be when the bull gored its tormentors!
Time Spain realised what century we’re in!

  2. It is child abuse to my mind.

  3. “So many people insist they are against animal abuse, cruelty, suffering and the inhumane treatment of animals, yet they don’t understand they are actively engaging in and supporting egregious suffering, abuse, cruelty and inhumane treatment when they eat animals and their ‘by-products.’ If you are against cruelty, suffering and inhumane treatment, then you go vegan. It’s just that simple.” – Sarah Kiser
