Target: Loretta Lynch, Attorney General
Goal: Prosecute border patrol agents allegedly responsible for death of Mexican immigrant.
Despite our call for action, the U.S. Department of Justice has announced it will not be prosecuting the border patrol agents allegedly responsible for the death of former U.S. resident Anastasio Hernandez-Rojas. In May of 2010, eyewitness video shows U.S. border patrol agents brutally beating and tasing Hernandez-Rojas while he attempted to enter the United States. The man previously lived in the country for 25 years. The coroner ruled his death a homicide, its report stating that Hernandez-Rojas died from a heart attack, blunt-force trauma, and damage to his spinal cord, among other injuries.
We cannot allow this incident to be swept under the carpet. Demand the U.S. Department of Justice reopen the case and prosecute those responsible for Hernandez-Rojas’ murder.
Dear Attorney General Lynch,
I am mortified to learn that the U.S. Department of Justice will not be taking action against the border patrol agents allegedly responsible for the death of former U.S. resident Anastasio Hernandez-Rojas. Mr. Hernandez-Rojas was brutally beaten and tased to death, and this horrific incident was caught on video tape.
How can the U.S. Department of Justice refuse to take action, especially when the coroner ruled Hernandez-Rojas’ death a homicide? Reopen this case and conduct a thorough investigation. Justice must be served for this former U.S. resident.
