Target: Daphne, Alabama Prosecuting Attorney James M. Scroggins
Goal: Help ensure football star accused of raping teen receives the most severe penalty allowable.
A 16-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by an 18-year-old high school football star has become the victim of threats because she reported the incident. A detective says he raped her while she was unconscious, then went to the victim’s home where he confessed and apologized in an arrogant manner to her parents, before turning himself in. After the alleged rapist was arrested, students began siding with him and bullying the victim.
This sick victim-blaming practice is backwards and only perpetuates the crime. A victim of rape should never have to face further torment like this. It’s behavior like this that causes some rape victims to never come forward, and in turn, it allows rapists to continue their sick crimes.
If this football player is found guilty of rape, then his fellow classmates deserve to know that he’s a danger to them. Please urge the district attorney to step in and take action for the victim by helping see to it that the rapist recieves the most harsh penalty possible.
Dear Prosecuting Attorney Scroggins,
A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped while unconscious. The 18-year-old alleged rapist is a high school football star, and despite going to her parents’ house and confessing, then turning himself in, he’s being treated like the victim. The actual victim is being bullied and receiving threats by her peers for the incident.
This is why rape often goes unreported and rapists are allowed to go free and continue to rape people. We urge you to help bring the victim justice by aiming for the most severe penalty possible for the rapist.
