Target: John Lemoine, Mayor of Marksville, Louisiana
Goal: Fire marshals who shot a six-year-old boy in the process of trying to apprehend his father.
A six-year-old boy is dead after marshals allegedly fired shots into the car that he and his father were traveling in. The father, Chris Few of Marksville, Louisiana, was allegedly attempting to flee from the officers as they were trying to serve a warrant. According to the coroner, Few reached a dead end and backed into the officers’ car. The officers then exited the vehicle and opened fire.
While an official autopsy has not been conducted, preliminary reports say that the first grade student died from multiple wounds to the head and chest. His father, the driver of the car, was also shot multiple times and remains in the hospital in serious condition after undergoing major surgery for gunshot wounds to the head. State police are currently investigating this tragic story.
This entire situation demonstrates a shocking lack of judgement by the marshals. Shots should never have been fired without a serious possibility of the suspect causing harm to the public or the officers, and certainly not with an innocent child in the line of fire. The fact that the marshals were able to exit their car after the suspect backed into it suggests that the officers were uninjured and more than able to seek further police backup before apprehending the suspect.
If the marshals had better assessed the situation, this child would still be alive. This kind of indiscriminate brutality should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, and those responsible should have their positions of authority taken away. Sign the petition below to demand that the marshals are fired.
Dear Mayor Lemoine,
A six-year-old boy was recently killed when Marksville marshals opened fire on a car driven by his father, who was attempting to evade them. A coroner’s preliminary report stated that the boy was shot several times in the chest and head, likely through the driver’s side door. The driver of the car was also critically injured and recently underwent surgery on a gunshot wound to the head.
This tragedy could have been avoided if the officers had reacted with better judgement. Had they properly assessed the situation, it is unlikely that they would have put the life of a child at risk simply to serve a warrant to his father. We, the undersigned, demand that the marshals are fired from their positions of authority. We also ask that you do everything possible to aid in the police investigation into the incident.
