Stop Nightclub from Abusing Sea Life

Target: Sol Kerzner, CEO of Kerzner International

Goal: Force hotel to end monthly parties in an underground aquarium.

Sea life is abused during nightclub parties that are held once a month in an underground aquarium beneath the Atlantis The Palm hotel in Dubai. Animal rights groups have voiced concern about these parties and the negative impact they could have on aquatic life. Sea life should not viewed as a gimmick for this nightclub.

The Dubai hotel plans to use over 65,000 sea creatures inside the Lost Chambers Aquarium as decoration for club goers during monthly “Deep Under” nights. The aquarium includes baby alligators, stingrays, sharks, and other sea life that are squeezed into tanks that are much smaller than their natural habitat. PETA shared concerns over this idea because of noise issues that could harm the fishes. Loud noises can agitate the marine life and cause them to attack each other out of frustration. Vibrations from the music and dance floor will also cause tension for these captive creatures.

Atlantis The Palm hotel must reconsider holding these parties at the expense of these animals’ well-being. Animals are not party decorations that serve to liven up a nightclub or create a catchy theme for party goers. Sign this petition to save marine life from the harmful effects of these parties.

Dear Mr. Kerzner,

The “Deep Under” nights held at Atlantis The Palm hotel violate the rights of marine life. It’s dangerous to expose aquarium sea life to a party atmosphere. This is not the type of environment they’re naturally accustomed to and it is wrong to force them into it.

Loud noises and sound vibrations can severely agitate fishes, which can result in them attacking each other due to frustration. Life in an aquariums is already confined to a space that is far too small for comfort. It’s unnecessary to further this discomfort by adding irritating music and intoxicated, gawking club goers to the scene.

Animals, including marine life, cannot be used as entertainment. They are sensitive to changes in their environment in the same way human beings are. There is no reason to disrupt their lifestyle to enliven a nightclub and create gimmicks for a party. I urge you to reconsider the decision to host these parties in an aquarium where captive animals will be disturbed.

Would you be so kind as to sign my own petition to stop a nightclub from exhibiting two endangered hammerhead sharks in a very small tank in Adelaide, Australia?
