Target: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel
Goal: Applaud that Chicago is recruiting new police officers to increase the police force and aims to increase diversity in the department.
Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Tell Mayor Rahm Emanuel to Add 1,000 Police Officers to Chicago Force, the Chicago police department is recruiting new police officers and plans to increase diversity within the department.
CPD Superintendent Garry McCarthy said the department has almost exhausted the recruits from the last round of hiring that was done years ago and the department needs to refresh with new and more diverse recruits.
The police department will partner with community and faith leaders in order to help them recruit and get the word out about the new applications. McCarthy and Mayor Rahm Emanuel said this round of recruiting will set itself apart from others because it will be heavily focused on increasing diversity among the ranks of the department.
Chicago has been one of the most violent cities in recent years, so adding to the police force and creating a force that represents all of Chicago’s people is vital. Applaud this new round of diverse police recruitment.
Dear Mayor Emanuel,
I’m writing to applaud you for starting a new round of recruitment for the Chicago police department that aims to create a more diverse force. Violence has been increasing in the city, and a lack of police officers cannot continue with such a rise in crime.
You made a campaign promise to add 1,000 more police officers to the Chicago police force, and I’m glad that you are keeping that promise. It’s vital that creating a larger and more diverse police force happens during such a violent time in the city. Thank you for this new round of diverse police recruitment.
