Target: U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson
Goal: Applaud the step to block Alabama from defunding Planned Parenthood clinics in the state.
Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Stop Defunding Planned Parenthood, Alabama has been blocked from defunding Planned Parenthood clinics. U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson issued a preliminary injunction after the state tried to terminate its contract to provide services to Planned Parenthood under Medicaid.
Judge Thompson said Alabama did not provide a reason for terminating its agreement with the Planned Parenthood affiliate serving the region, which is required under federal law. Alabama joins Arkansas, Louisiana and Utah as states in which Planned Parenthood has successfully blocked defunding efforts.
The controversy comes amid videos released by an anti-abortion activist group that claimed Planned Parenthood sells fetal tissue for profit. The videos were found to have been falsely edited and misleading and Planned Parenthood was found to have performed no wrongdoing.
Applaud this step towards protecting Planned Parenthood from unwarranted attacks and keeping its vital services available for thousands of poor people across the state of Alabama.
Dear Judge Thompson,
I am glad to hear that you issued a preliminary injunction after Alabama tried to block defunding to Planned Parenthood. The fact that Alabama tried to pull this move because of videos released by an anti-abortion activist group that claimed Planned Parenthood sells fetal tissue for profit, which have been proven to be false, is ridiculous.
Thank you for standing up for Planned Parenthood, keeping it funded and allowing it to keep providing services to people in need across the state of Alabama.
