Justice for Doctors Without Borders Hospital Hit By Airstrikes

Target: U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon

Goal: Punish the Saudi Arabian-led coalition airstrikes that destroyed a Doctors Without Borders facility in Yemen.

A Doctors Without Borders hospital in Saada, Yemen, was hit by multiple airstrikes overnight. The planes that carried out the airstrikes were part of a Saudi Arabian-led coalition that has been targeting the Houthi rebel group. So far there are no reported deaths, but the hospital was completely destroyed.

Half of the 5,000 people who have been killed in the civil war between the Houthis and Yemeni government have been civilians. Doctors Without Borders said they had given the struck hospital’s GPS coordinates to the Saudi coalition months ago and reconfirmed them on a monthly basis in order to prevent this kind of tragedy.

The U.S. has backed the Saudi coalition since its start but the White House tried to avoid responsibility for the airstrikes that continue to be inaccurate and kill civilians. This tragedy comes shortly after U.S. airstrikes destroyed another Doctors Without Borders facility in Afghanistan, killing 30 people.

This kind of reckless violence that kills innocent civilians must be stopped and justice must be served. Urge officials to bring justice against the Saudi Arabian-led coalition airstrikes that destroyed Doctors Without Borders facility in Yemen.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary General Ki-moon,

Just after U.S. airstrikes destroyed a Doctors Without Borders facility in Afghanistan and killed 30 civilians, yet another airstrike, this time led by a Saudi Arabian coalition, has destroyed another Doctors Without Borders hospital in Yemen. Even though the hospital gave the hospital’s GPS coordinates to the Saudi coalition and continually reconfirmed them, this tragedy still happened.

Half of the 5,000 people who have been killed in the civil war between the Houthis and Yemeni government have been civilians. Civilians should not die at the hands of officials in such large numbers for no good reason. I urge you to bring justice against the Saudi Arabian-led coalition airstrikes that destroyed Doctors Without Borders facility in Yemen.

Sincerely,

  1. Doctor’s without boarders knew the consequences of being in this area. These are the calamities of war. The US should not be persecuted for it.

Just like news reporters they risk their lives when traveling to areas of conflict.

    This is not reckless violence.

Not true AT ALL…. I don’t know where you get your info from, but it sucks. Knowingly and precisely hitting a hospital (w/o damaging the rest of the compound) even after being TOLD by multiple sources that it was a DWB hospital, not a Taliban occupied building, is the definition of reckless and unwarranted. Plus, of course they’re going to be in the ‘area of conflict’ – that’s the point…. ever see the show ‘M*A*S*H’? When you have a war with a quickly changing front, one minute you’re safe and the next minute you’re being shelled. War isn’t tidy and organized…. that’s why communications is so important to KNOW WHAT YOU’RE HITTING!
