Target: German chancellor Angela Merkel
Goal: Applaud that 100,000 spots will be held in reception centers for refugees passing through Europe and the Balkans while fleeing violence in their home countries.
Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Address the Refugee Crisis in Europe, 100,000 spots have been designated in reception centers to assist refugees traveling through Turkey, Greece and the western Balkans on their way to reach locations like Germany and Scandinavia before winter. This is in addition to a 17-point assistance plan for the refugees.
Holding these spots in reception centers will help to ensure that people have shelter and are not forced to fend for themselves and sleep outside. Leaders agreed that assisting this large number of refugees in reception centers was important to Europe upholding its values and demonstrating solidarity for citizens of violent and war-torn countries.
In addition to holding spots in reception centers, the plan will provide rent subsidies and host family programs for at least 20,000 more people. These moves will provide a safer and more secure way for refugees to travel and find new homes.
Applaud this step towards addressing the refugee crisis in Europe and helping these citizens who need it most.
Dear Chancellor Merkel,
The refugee crisis has been a major issue this year that has caused a lot of tragedy and struggles as nations try to figure out a plan to assist migrants escaping violence and other horrid conditions in their home countries. I am glad to hear that you and other leaders have outlined a multi-step plan to assist these people and provide shelter for them during a time they need it the most.
These people have no one else to turn to but themselves and have been forced to sleep in fields or other random places outside. Now with spots reserved in reception centers for them, some will no longer have to worry about sleeping outside as they travel. I applaud you for taking this step to address the refugee crisis and help these people.
