Target: New York Governor Andrew Cuomo
Goal: Applaud the move to ban transgender discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations.
New York Govenor Andrew Cuomo is planning to use his executive authority to ban discrimination against transgender people in housing, employment, credit education, and public accommodations across the state of New York, thanks in part to the work of ForceChange activists.
This comes after several failed legislative attempts to protect trans people under the same anti-discrimination law that protects people on the basis of sexual orientation. The proposed regulations will expand the definitions of “sex” and “disability” discrimination to include gender identity, gender expression, and gender dysphoria.
The problems facing trans people have become major issues recently, with murders of trans people and discrimination against them becoming more and more common without much consequence. It is vital that officials and the community take steps to ensure safety and justice for all. Applaud this step towards fighting discrimination against trans people.
Dear Governor Cuomo,
You have long been a champion for LGBT rights and I am happy to hear you took that support one step further by banning discrimination against transgender people in housing, employment, credit education, and public accommodations across the state of New York.
As we expand the umbrella of gender and all those who fall under it, it is essential that laws and officials reflect the changing times. It is up to officials and citizens to protect all people and ensure a safe and healthy life. I applaud this step you’ve taken towards fighting discrimination against trans people.
