Target: Petra Laszlo
Goal: Don’t sue refugee you tripped because it resulted in your unemployment.
A video went viral a few months ago that depicted a Hungarian camerawoman tripping a Syrian refugee who was carrying his small child. The woman, Petra Lazlo, was fired from her job and later apologized with an open letter to a Hungarian newspaper. Lazlo claims to have acted in self defense but her kicking does not appear to be defensive. Instead, she simply sticks her leg out and is able to keep her camera at eye level. Mohsen was also not the only refugee she tripped but his tripping incident gained most of the attention.
Because of Lazlo’s newly unemployed status, she allegedly plans to sue Abdul Mohsen, who is the refugee she tripped, along with Facebook. Mohsen may have to hire lawyers or miss work if Lazlo follows through with this act. These things are expensive and time consuming and are things that refugees just becoming established in a new country should not have to deal with. Sign this petition to show Petra Laszlo that suing Mohsen is not the right thing to do.
Dear Petra Laszlo,
I am writing this letter to you in hopes it can persuade you to not sue Abdul Mohsen, who you tripped and the incident resulted in you being fired from your job. You have tried to do right by your mistakes by writing an open letter of apology in a Hungarian newspaper but to sue Mohsen now would be to undo the work you have put into doing the right thing.
Abdul Mohsen and his family have endured incredible amounts of pain and suffering as Syrian refugees. They have endured a civil war, fearing for their lives, and dealing with displacement and homelessness. Moreover, they have recently just settled in a new country after being displaced for so long. To sue a family that has gone though so much because of your actions, whether you meant ill will or not, would be cruel and pointless.
Mohsen was simply trying to carry his child to safety when you tripped him. He did nothing wrong and ultimately is not responsible for the uproar caused by the video and for your termination from your job. Suing Mohsen is simply not the right course of action for you to take.
