Save Hogs from Allegedly Abusive Farm

Target:  Jeffrey Haubrich, Assistant Rock County Attorney

Goal: Reopen alleged hog farm abuse case after it was closed without charges being pressed.

A Minnesota hog farm had all charges dropped against it in an alleged animal abuse case. The decision to drop all charges is thought to be political and unjustified. Christensen Farms is owned by a large corporation that supplies a majority of the meat in Minnesota. When the company was accused of animal abuse, the case was closed, even with proof of sufficient evidence, due to the influence of this powerful company. We must take action to reopen this case for the justice of innocent, suffering pigs.

Unfortunately, because of the money and power in the hands of the abusers, charges against large corporations are often ignored . The case was brought on by an animal rights group, Last Chance for Animals. Adam Wilson, director of the group, says he presented clear evidence of abuse to the prosecutor and did not receive a reply. If evidence was not even reviewed, how could they deem the case clear to close?

The undercover video that prompted the case in the first place shows injuries to the hogs that were clearly ignored, some even laying with open wounds bleeding out. The video also shows an employee repeatedly jabbing a hog with a pen to make it move. This action left injuries on the hog’s back. Multiple hogs were recorded as having their illness or injuries neglected for weeks on end.

This case cannot be ignored due to the fear of challenging a powerful corporation. The hogs deserve fair and equal treatment, not to be abused and neglected. Sign this petition and demand this case be reopened so these hogs can get justice once and for all.

Dear Mr. Haubrich,

I am writing you today because I am deeply disappointed in the outcome of the case brought against Christensen Farms. The hog farm in question did not receive an accurate trial in regards to animal abuse. Evidence sent to the prosecutor was ignored and received no reply. How can a case be deemed closed when it has not even been thoroughly investigated?

The case’s closing notes entailed that the animals were well cared for but videos released of the farm show otherwise. The video shows employees jabbing a hog with a pen to try to get it to move, leaving injuries on the poor hog’s back. It also shows hogs being clearly neglected; some of the animals have bloody, unattended wounds.

These hogs deserve fair treatment, not to be neglected for weeks on end with injuries and untreated illnesses. I urge you to reopen this case and give it a fair trial to give these hogs justice once and for all.
