Punish Shelter Workers for Alleged Animal Abuse

Target: Kym L. Worthy, Wayne County Michigan Prosecuting Attorney

Goal: Investigate shelter and give shelter workers maximum punishment for allegedly allowing animals to live in their own feces and for leaving animals without medical care.

Animals are allegedly sick and living in their own waste at one animal control facility. We need to take action to ensure that animals are being treated humanely.

A former shelter worker named Brittany Roberts was fired after bringing up concerns about how animals are treated at the Detroit Animal Control facility to her supervisors. She claims that food is thrown on the floor next to the animals’ waste and that the waste is left on the floor for long periods of time. The drains allegedly don’t work, meaning that the animals may also be living in their own urine.

It has been reported that several animals at the shelter are infected with various diseases but have not received medical care. Sadly, one dog was even said to be thrown into a wheelbarrow and left there to die after it was hit by a car.

Urge the prosecuting attorney to recommend that a thorough investigation be done of this animal shelter. Furthermore, any guilty parties found should be given the maximum sentence for animal abuse for these horrible crimes. Animals do not deserve to be abused by the very people who are supposed to be looking out for their welfare.

Dear Prosecuting Attorney Worthy,

Several animals are allegedly being abused at the Detroit Animal Control facility by the people who work there. It is important that a thorough investigation take place to ensure that all animals are treated humanely.

Brittany Roberts was fired after she brought up concerns about the animals’ living conditions to shelter workers. Such concerns include dogs living in their own waste and urine, food being thrown on the floor next to the animals’ waste, and dogs going untreated for several serious conditions such as parvo, a contagious virus that is spread to other dogs through contact of animal feces. Unfortunately, it is even thought that one dog was dumped in a wheelbarrow and left untreated after being hit by a car.

These are the reasons why I urge you to conduct a full investigation of these allegations. People who work with animals are supposed to have animals at their best interest. Any workers found to be abusing animals should be immediately fired and punished with a maximum sentence for animal abuse. Please protect these innocent creatures.

How many times does this have to happen before those whose job it is to make sure those who are “caring” for the animals are worthy of the job they are given. Somebody higher up is responsible for overseeing the operation of these shelters. This keeps happening over and over and over….Animal Welfare workers are paid by the tax payers, so we have a right to know and demand reform…and some people getting fired.
