Target: Jeff Zucker, President of CNN
Goal: Stop pushing political agenda while censoring conflicting information.
After they deleted a poll on their website that showed a landslide win for Bernie Sanders, CNN published, “Clinton triumphs in Democrat debate as rivals compete to lose.” CNN’s parent company is Time Warner, a top Clinton campaign contributor. CNN completely disregarded the poll results and continued with their alleged Time Warner-fueled political agenda. The media influences politics and voters, who hold them accountable to report truthfully.
During the debate, CNN teamed up with Facebook on-air for polling. Sanders won every poll. He received 59% of the votes on foreign policy, 72% on economic issues, and 75% overall. Post-debate, CNN asked who won the debate on an online poll. Sanders won that poll as well, with 81% of the votes, versus Clinton’s 13%. Clearly, the polls were not meant to influence CNN’s reporting, since every article named Clinton as the winner. One tagline even reads, “the takeaway from the Political Prediction Market is clear—Hillary Clinton came out stronger.” CNN immediately took the Sanders-favored poll down.
CNN pundits are entitled to their freedom of speech and can broadcast their opinions that Clinton won. One would think though, that they would at least mention their own polling results. The shocking disparity between CNN’s polls and CNN’s broadcasting is sickening, even more so once you realize CNN is owned by one of Clinton’s chief donors, Time Warner. Time Warner has already contributed half a million dollars to her campaign. A conglomerate that’s involved in one of the candidate’s campaigns should not have been allowed to host the debate. CNN website users started reposting comments about CNN’s connection with Time Warner after claiming these comments were repeatedly being taken down.
America brags about its freedoms, denouncing other countries like China for their internet censorship. Yet the media has become a propaganda machine. America is controlled by Big Banks, Big Corporations, and now Big Media, headed by the Fox and Time Warner conglomerates. CNN cannot be trusted as an unbiased source of news for the elections. By signing this petition, you are telling CNN that you are aware of their propaganda and are repulsed by their disingenuous reporting.
Dear Mr. Zucker,
It seems strange that CNN declared Hillary Clinton as the clear winner of the Democratic debate, as if it was an obvious landslide win, when CNN’s own polling showed otherwise. Declaring a winner of a debate is subjective, unless you poll. Then you can use the poll results to deduce a winner.
Besides CNN’s poll, there were a handful of other polls that showed Sanders won the debate by an at least 18-point margin. His name search in Google increased 193 times during the debate. Post-debate, Sanders gained twice as many Twitter followers as Clinton and had six times the mentions as her on Facebook.
There seems to be a general consensus that both Clinton and Sanders did well at the debate. Sanders received the best polling numbers and increased support in his campaign, yet somehow it’s “clear” that Clinton won.
CNN has received considerable criticism for their reporting, being compared to the notorious Fox news and becoming the butt of jokes for their obsessive missing plane “coverage.” Censoring your polls, ignoring items that don’t fit your agenda and broadcasting biased debate coverage is a new low. I can no longer trust CNN’s reporting. I urge the network to recognize the necessity for accountable reporting and start showing integrity.
