Justice for Children Allegedly Duct Taped to Chairs

Target: David J. Partsch, Otoe County Attorney

Goal: Prosecute mother and boyfriend for allegedly duct-taping children to chairs and forcing them to watch a child abuse film.

A Nebraska woman and her boyfriend have been arrested for purportedly duct taping her children to chairs and forcing them to watch the 1981 child abuse flick Mommie Dearest. Apparently, Mary Lucas decided this was proper punishment for her children because they called her the “meanest” mommy. Although Lucas was not home, it is alleged that she directed her boyfriend, Glenn Oliver, to force the kids to watch the film and Oliver duct taped the young ones to chairs when they refused to sit still.

In an affidavit, Lucas said she wanted to show her children what a real mean mother was like to prove they were wrong about her, and this is why she chose to force her young ones to watch the Hollywood production. Lucas informed police that he tied the kids up because he was “tired and frustrated” of babysitting and they wouldn’t sit still during the movie.

Mommie Dearest may have some startling scenes, but these were acted. In reality, it appears that Lucas was made aware that her children had been duct taped and refused to go home to help them. In fact, the affidavit states Lucas text messaged a friend, “It’s just a misunderstanding. I will take care of it when I get home.” Lucas is being charged with felony child abuse; her boyfriend has been charged with child abuse and false imprisonment.

When you get beyond how unbelievable this story is, you see a true case of allegedly horrific treatment toward children and blatant disregard of their well-being by their mother. Seek justice for these two minors and demand Lucas and Oliver be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Dear Mr. Partsch,

At the bottom of what seems a ridiculous story is a very serious case of alleged child abuse. No child should be duct taped to a chair, much less forced to watch a movie about child abuse. I do not know if these children were injured when released from the duct tape, but I can only imagine they were. I’m sure they were emotionally scarred by the incident.

What is even more mind boggling is the mother’s apparent awareness that her children had been confined in such a manner, yet she refused to come home early and do something about it. I cannot imagine knowing my children are actually duct-taped to chairs and not immediately returning to help them. If the allegations are true, this is a very serious matter.

As such, I am writing to impress upon you the importance of researching this case very thoroughly and, if adequate evidence is found, prosecuting Mary Lucas and Glenn Oliver to the fullest extent of the law. If what they have done is real, these poor children will be scarred for life. I guess Ms. Lucas really is the “meanest” mother after all.

After what our mother did to us I cannot believe that my sister could choose to do this to her own children I pray that she is leveled the maximum sentence and that like our mother any and all future children will be removed from her at birth and I hope that my nephews can work through the damage she has caused
