Punish Man Who Allegedly Cut Off Maid’s Arm

Target: Prince Faisal bin Bandar Al Saud, Riyadh Governor

Goal: Investigate and punish man who allegedly cut off his maid’s arm.

An Indian domestic worker has allegedly had her arm cut off by her Saudi employer. Kasthuri Munirathinam was working as a maid in a Riyadh household when she informed authorities that she was being mistreated. According to Munirathinam, her employer was not paying her nor was he providing her with enough food rations. As punishment, Munirathinam alleges her Saudi Arabian sponsor cut off her arm.

At this time, Munirathinam remains in Saudi Arabia hospitalized, and the Indian government has called upon Riyadh authorities for an independent investigation into the matter. In fact, India has requested Saudi authorities charge Munirathinam’s sponsor with attempted murder. Vikas Swarup, India’s External Affairs spokesman, said the incident is “very unfortunate and most condemnable,” and that Saudi Arabia should take “strict action in the matter and severe punishment for the sponsor.”

This is just the latest incident in a long line of Saudis mistreating their migrant workers, and maids seem to be some of the most targeted victims. Abuse against maids in the past has included sexual assault and gang rape. We must stand in solidarity with India and demand a full investigation of this incident. If Kasthuri Munirathinam was indeed being mistreated as alleged, she had every right to report the abuse to the proper authorities.

Demand a full investigation into the allegations that Munirathinam’s sponsor cut off her arm, and proper punishment if he is found guilty.

Your Prince Faisal,

I am writing to request that you initiate a full investigation into the allegation that one of your citizens in Riyadh cut off the arm of his migrant maid because she reported mistreatment to the police. This is a very serious accusation, and this victim deserves justice if what she is saying is indeed true.

While I certainly understand and respect our cultural differences, I do not believe that anyone should be punished in such an extreme manner for reporting alleged abuse to the proper authorities. Nobody should endure such terror and agonizing pain, especially if her allegations are founded.

At this time we do not know if what Kasthuri Munirathinam is saying is true, which is why I am calling upon you to begin a thorough and independent inquisition into her accusations. This is the only way India, Saudi Arabia and those of us throughout the world who care will know what really happened.

Please investigate Ms. Munirathinam’s accusations thoroughly, and please punish the man who cut off her arm. You must set a precedent that this type of abuse will no longer be tolerated under your governance and in your nation.
