Target: Bill Haslam, Governor of Tennessee
Goal: Thank the governor and other activists for demanding an online registry list of people who committed animal cruelty crimes.
State residents who have abused animals will soon be less likely to own pets or to work in places like animal shelters because a list containing the names of people who committed serious animal cruelty crimes will be available to the public in the near future. Activists need to thank the governor for making this registry law and all other activists—such as people from the ForceChange community—who fought for this much needed change in order to send a loud and clear message to other states that it is important to set such laws in place. Thanks to this disclosure, it will be more likely that animals will be treated humanely.
The online registry will be available for viewing starting on January 1, 2016. Even animals listed on Craigslist will stand a much less likely chance of being harmed since people trying to rehome their animals will also have access to the information.
Thank the governor for ensuring this registry becomes law. Many more animals will likely be much better off as a result.
Dear Governor Haslam,
It has come to our attention that you have made it legally required for the names of people who have a history of abusing animals to be accessible starting January 1, 2016. Taking such an action means that many more animals will likely be safer.
It is great news that the public will have access to the registry because doing so will help even animals bought through Craigslist remain unharmed. Someone who has to rehome his pet due to an extenuating life circumstance will be able to breathe a sigh of relief since he will be able to better ensure his pet is going to a good home after checking the registry.
Thank you for making this online registry law and for also making it available to everyone, as some states only have such data available to officials who work with animals, making things a bit more difficult for individuals trying to find a pet a good home. We appreciate your thoughtfulness as well as your attentiveness to this matter and we look forward to working with you on other pertinent matters in the future that will further help to improve the lives of all animals.
