Target: Carlsbad, California Chief of Police Neil Galluci
Goal: Dismiss police officers who allegedly abused mother and compensate her for unjust violence.
A complaint was filed accusing a police officer of beating on a mother in front of her kids for suggesting that the cop do his job. California woman Cindy Hahn says she was driving home from a birthday party with her two children when she passed a car with its alarm going off. The mother asked a nearby officer why he was not doing anything about the alarming car and he allegedly replied with “mind your f*cking business.”
According to her report, Hahn called a non-emergency hotline and reported the officer’s behavior. She continued on her way home and then realized she was being followed by the officer. She was pulled over for a minor violation and the officer allegedly demanded Hahn get out of the car her children were in and proceeded to pin her to the ground and beat her up. Backup soon arrived, and the additional police officers can be seen in the video assaulting Hahn further.
The incident was recorded by a bystander who can be heard exclaiming in the video that Hahn “did nothing wrong, she didn’t do anything wrong!” The officers who reportedly beat up the mother in front of her children are still working. The two children, just seven and 11 at the time, were allegedly forced to see their mother pinned to the ground and beaten up while she screamed for someone to help her. This incident occurred years ago and is just now being reported, so who knows how many more times this has occurred with these officers?
The Carlsbad police have stated that this is acceptable police behavior when it is obviously not. We cannot support violence like this from officers who are meant to protect us. Sign this petition and demand these officers be removed from his position and the police department compensate Hahn for this unjust violence.
Dear Officer Galluci,
I am writing you today because I am deeply saddened by a 2013 incident involving a group of your officers and citizen Cindy Hahn. Hahn commented on an officer not taking action on a car alarm going off and he allegedly told her to “mind your f*cking business.” Hahn called and reported the incident to a non-emergency hotline.
Hahn proceeded on her way home and realized the officer was following her. The officer pulled her over and demanded she get out of the car, then pinned her to the ground and called for backup. Throughout the whole incident, Hahn’s two children were forced to watch their mother get beat up as she screamed for help.
The occurrence was filmed by a woman walking by who heard the screams. The woman recording can be heard in video saying “she did nothing wrong, she did not do anything wrong!”
This incident happened years ago and is just now being reported, so there is no telling how many incidents have not been reported with these officers. Your police department’s website states that your officers strive to be collaborative and communicative with its citizens and these officers are not mirroring those values. I urge you to remove the officers from the lineup to prevent this unjust violence from happening again.
