Target: Executive Deputy Commissioner of the New York Department of Criminal Justice Michael C. Green

Goal: Prosecute a reckless taxi driver who allegedly injured six people and move the school bus stop to a lower traffic area.

A livery cab reportedly jumped onto a curb and drove through a group of pedestrians near a school bus stop in the Bronx, New York. Two of the victims were children and two others were critically injured by the accident, but fire officials will not confirm whether or not the critically injured victims are the children involved. Witnesses say that a young boy was trapped under the car between the sidewalk, and that good samaritans attempted to lift the car and pull him out before a car jack was retrieved.

Firefighters were eventually able to drag the boy out from under the vehicle, but the woman with the children who is believed to be their mother was also injured by the cab car. Neighbors say that the bus stop should have been moved years ago because of the high-traffic area that becomes even more dangerous with the heavy presence of speeders. Tell the New York Criminal Justice Department to prosecute this driver for his reckless actions and to relocate the school bus stop to a safer area with less speeding traffic.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Deputy Commissioner Green,

Recently, a tragic accident occurred when a livery taxi cab in the Bronx hopped the edge of a curb and plowed through a crowd of people nearby a school bus stop, injuring six people and giving crucial injuries to two of them. It has yet to be released whether those critically injured were children, but two children were injured in the accident and one little boy was trapped underneath the cab until rescued by responding firefighters, according to eye witnesses.

Neighbors that live nearby this bus stop complained that the stop should have been moved a long time ago because of the heavily trafficked area and the notoriety of speeders on the adjacent street. There is no reason to risk school children’s safety by making them stand on a busy street and stay adjacent to reckless drivers. I demand that the taxi driver involved in this accident be prosecuted for his reckless actions, and I also demand that this school bus stop be relocated to a safer and less heavily trafficked area.

Sincerely,
