Don’t Murder Wheezer the Orphaned Deer

Wheezer-Jodi Proger

Target: Ohio Governor John Kasich

Goal: Spare the life of Wheezer, an orphaned deer, and create a deer sanctuary in Ohio.

Two years ago, Jodi Proger saved the life of an orphaned deer whose mother unfortunately ended up as roadkill. Now, Ohio’s Department of Natural Resources wants to take Wheezer, the orphaned deer, and end his life. Back in 2013, Proger passed what she initially thought was just roadkill, but at second glance she saw a fawn circling his dead mother in a frenzy. At that point, Proger turned the car around and retrieved the panicked fawn from the busy road. After doing some research, she found that there were no deer sanctuaries in all of Ohio. Upon this discovery, Proger decided to care for the fawn herself on her farm. Proger and her family have now cared for Wheezer for over two years and he is considered part of the family.

For years, Proger and her family have lived without complaint. However, this all changed a couple of months ago. An officer saw Wheezer on his tether leash and reports were filed. In Ohio, it is illegal to keep wild deer as pets. Proger was unaware of this law when she rescued Wheezer. In addition, there are no deer sanctuaries in Ohio, which puts Proger between a rock and a hard place. While Proger is aware that Wheezer’s living conditions may not be ideal for deer, she did the best that she could with the resources she had available.

Sign this petition below and urge Governor John Kasich to spare Wheezer’s life and to prevent this from happening in the future by creating a sanctuary for injured and orphaned deer.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor John Kasich,

In 2013, a woman by the name of Jodi Proger saw an orphaned fawn on the side of a road and retrieved him. After discovering there are no deer sanctuaries in all of Ohio, she decided that she would take care of the fawn herself. For over two years, the deer, now named Wheezer, has lived peacefully with the Proger family and with no complaint from neighbors. He is happy and healthy in his home where he enjoys the company of humans and animals alike.

Recently, law officials became aware that Proger had Wheezer living in her home. Since it is illegal to keep wild deer as pets, the Department of Natural Resources wants to take Wheezer away from his family and end his life.

For all these reasons stated above, I am urging you to spare the life of Wheezer. He has coexisted peacefully and there is no reason to end his life. I am also asking you to consider creating a deer sanctuary in Ohio so a situation like this does not happen again. If a deer sanctuary was established, it would create a place where injured and orphaned deer could be kept and rehabilitated. Right now you could help save an innocent life and create a haven to save many more in the future.

Kindest Regards,

Please let this animal stay with the woman who saved it!!!!! There seems to be no rational reason to take it away and murder it!!!!

  2. If we all perform a small act of kindness, we perhaps make this a better world! Please provide this act of kindness for Wheezer!
