Justice for Goats Allegedly Left for Dead by Biotech Firm

Target: Tom Vilsack, Secretary of the USDA

Goal: Punish the biotech company that allegedly left neglected goats locked in a barn to hide them from federal inspectors and neglected rabbits who needed treatment.

A biotech company that supplies science labs with antibodies harvested from the blood of thousands of goats and rabbits is being investigated for neglecting the animals left in its care. Santa Cruz Biotechnology Inc. in San Luis Obispo, Calif., is accused of hiding hundreds of neglected goats in a barn from inspectors for years. When federal investigators made a recent visit, they saw sick and dying goats who had been shot in the head with a bolt gun.

The company supposedly failed to provide adequate veterinary care for sick goats, leaving the goats to suffer and even die. Rather than providing care for the animals, workers would simply shoot and kill them. When the company would provide care, it would use uncertified veterinary technicians to care for animals rather than licensed techs or veterinarians. This abuse has allegedly been going on for years.

This abuse and neglect has been allowed to continue thanks to loopholes and minimized punishments from the Animal Welfare Act. Companies cannot be allowed to continue to get away with this kind of disgusting mistreatment of animals. Innocent animals should not suffer and die at the hands of humans using them for a profit.

Urge officials to punish Santa Cruz Biotechnology Inc. to the full extent of the law and shut it down.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Vilsack,

Santa Cruz Biotechnology Inc. has been allegedly neglecting animals for years. They have been accused of performing medical procedures on animals then leaving them to suffer without veterinary care. When the animals do get treatment, it’s reportedly from people who aren’t qualified to care for them. Rather than helping the animals, they are shot to death to simply be disposed of, according to reports.

This company even went so far as to hide hundreds of suffering animals in a barn to keep federal inspectors from seeing them, according to accusations. This kind of horrific animal neglect has reportedly resulted in the death of innocent animals and this absolutely cannot keep happening.

I urge you to punish Santa Cruz Biotechnology Inc. to the full extent of the law and shut it down.

Sincerely,

  3. Tina shurtleff says:

This is disgusting unnecessary torture of living feeling beings. I have goats and a pet rabbit. They are gentle sweet animals and do not deserve this.

  4. NO creature deserves to be left in a barn to slowly die, except maybe the lowlifes who do this to innocent animals. These animals have more feelings than some humans!

Tom, YOU OVERPAID,IGNORANT,CRUEL PERSON,PROVE ME WRONG AND DO SOMETHING!

  6. RIP POOR INNOCENT ANIMALS THAT DIED AND SUFFERED BY THE HANDS OF THESE MONSTERS!!

WHERE IS THE USDA OR ANY GOVT AGENCY THAT IS SUPPOSED TO MONITOR THESE COMPANIES??? GREED AND MONEY CONTROL AND PROPEL SO MANY COMPANIES BUT THEY MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS. VERY SEVERE AND EXTREME PUNISHMENT MUST BE GIVEN TO ALL THOSE INVOLVED AND IT MUST BE DONE SWIFTLY. THIS KIND OF THING MUST BE STOPPED AND TO DO THAT MONITORING AND EXTREME PUNISHMENT IS THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT.

I HOPE THE ANIMALS LEFT BEHIND ARE HELPED AND FIND NEW HOMES AND SANCTUARIES TO LIVE OUT THEIR REMAINING LIVES.

  7. “So many people insist they are against animal abuse, cruelty, suffering and the inhumane treatment of animals, yet they don’t understand they are actively engaging in and supporting egregious suffering, abuse, cruelty and inhumane treatment when they eat animals and their ‘by-products.’ If you are against cruelty, suffering and inhumane treatment, then you go vegan. It’s just that simple.” – Sarah Kiser

Who owns Santa Cruz Biotechnology? Let’s have some names and faces and home addresses. Do to these bastards what we did to that wimpy dentist, Walter Palmer.

  9. I am a vegan and I walk my talk. When will each of us realize that it is just another form of cannibalism to eat flesh…no matter who’s it is? I was recently told by a medical professional after taking extensive tests that I am ten to fifteen years younger in my physical body than my chronological age. When leading an exercise class (done only every few months) I am the oldest in the group yet often the only one who can do all the exercises easily. Folks, there are SO MANY reasons to be vegan: compassion (mine), health and anti-aging, mental acuity, spiritual, climate change… I could go on and on. This is something each of us can benefit from…and of course, let’s stop the animal cruelty on EVERY level. With loving regard…

  10. Laura Altman says:

Godless people are being allowed to work with animals – living, breathing being that FEEL PAIN. it’s disgusting.

  11. Santa Cruz Biotechnology Inc. needs to be shut down now!!! These people are evil murderers and should be thrown in jail!

  12. SHAME ON YOU CALIFORNIA!!
