Success: Volkswagen CEO Resigns Amid Emissions Controversy

Target: The ForceChange Community

Goal: Applaud the resignation of the CEO of Volkswagen, which used a device to dodge emissions standards and damage the environment.

Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Punish Volkswagen for Polluting Environment by Cheating Emissions Tests, the company has begun facing the consequences for its actions and its CEO has resigned. Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn resigned after the automaker was found to have made cars with a device allowing the vehicles to avoid federal emissions standards and release nitrogen oxides at up to 40 times the federal standard.

Winterkorn accepted responsibility for the incident, although he claims to have no real involvement in the wrongdoing and is “shocked” that such misconduct could have occurred within the company. Officials are calling the scandal a threat to public health because of the damage those emissions can cause to both humans and the environment.

This unethical act was a huge misstep that Volkswagen must be punished for and also take responsibility for. Applaud the resignation of the CEO of Volkswagen as the first step towards consequences for the lying automaker.

Dear ForceChange Community,

Activists like you help to hold people accountable and have them face consequences for wrongdoing to ignite real change in the world. Through our work, we can hopefully prevent these negative incidents from happening again in the future because people will know they have to answer to their mistakes.

Volkwagen making cars with a device allowing the vehicles to avoid federal emissions standards is incredibly unethical and damaging to our world. The company must be punished for this massive scandal, and the resignation of the CEO is the first step towards this company facing the consequences for what it did. Let us applaud this change we have caused for the greater good of our world.

Another case in point of unethical and inexcusable corporate behavior. And don’t tell me he had no idea this was going on. CEO’s are very money hungry and bottom line focused and aware of the practices and procedures taking place in their firms so I don’t want to hear this P.O.S. feigning shock and ignorance. He knew damn well what was taking place and was probably the person responsible for conjuring up the deceitful methods or at the very least had full knowledge about it. Things like this will stop once we start holding CEO’s accountable and doing more than issuing a slap on the wrists. Once the potential of major fines and jail time enter the picture you’ll see a slowdown in incidents like this.
