Punish Teacher for Shaming Left-handed Student

Target: Alicia Priest, President of the Oklahoma Education Association

Goal: Punish teacher who shamed student for being left handed

Zayde Sands is a 4-year-old boy from Oklahoma who has always used his left hand when completing his school work. However, his mother recently noticed he had switched to his right hand. She asked her son what caused the change and he replied by lifting his left hand and saying “this one’s bad”.

Sands’ mother followed the incident with a note to his teacher asking about the change. The teacher replied by sending home a brochure with the 4-year-old student. What was inside the brochure shocked the young boys mother. The brochure stated that people who write with their left hand have been associated with being “unlucky, auspicious, or frankly evil”. The brochure even went so far as to say that the devil is often portrayed as being left handed.

A teacher should understand that each child learns and works differently. No child should be shamed for the way they write. Sign this petition to demand this teacher is punished for her sickening behavior.

Dear Alicia Priest,

Your Association’s slogan is “putting education first”, however a teacher as Oakes Elementary’s actions are saying otherwise.

The teacher recently shamed a 4-year-old student for using his left hand and made switch to his right hand. Upon noticing the change. The student’s mother wrote to the teacher inquiring and explanation. The teacher replied by sending the young student home with a brochure claiming left handed people are associated with being evil. The brochure even even goes so far as to point out that the devil is often portrayed as left handed.

I urge to reprimand this teacher for her actions. No teacher should shame a student for the way they learn.

  1. This teacher must be living in the middle ages to believe such a thing about being left-handed. And worse yet she is trying to spread the idiotic superstition.
