Target: Harry Reid, Senate Minority Leader
Goal: Applaud blocking of ban on abortions after 20 weeks.
Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Do Not Ban Abortions After 20 Weeks, the Senate has blocked a bill that would ban late-term abortions (abortions after 20 weeks). Luckily, President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats have repeatedly blocked any legislation that undermines abortion rights.
Some states in the U.S. already ban abortions after 20 weeks, which forces women to go somewhere else for a safe abortion or to perform a dangerous one themselves. A federal measure banning these kind of abortions would not only be a gross violation of women’s rights, it would be a major health and safety risk for women across the country.
Abortion has always been a hot topic but has really flared up recently due to unnecessary drama surrounding Planned Parenthood and false videos that claim the organization was unethically and illegally performing abortions to sell fetal tissue.
We must always stand up for women’s reproductive rights so we don’t have to go back to the dark ages of illegal and dangerous abortions. Applaud the Senate blocking this bill and standing up for women.
Dear Senator Reid,
I am so glad to hear that the Senate has blocked a bill that would ban late-term abortions. The kind of bill would be a huge violation of women’s rights as well as a major health liability because it would force women to go somewhere else for a safe abortion or to feel like they must perform an unsafe abortion themselves.
We cannot allow the rights and lives of women to be attacked. Women have a right to bodily autonomy and to make decisions for themselves. I applaud the Senate for blocking this unfair bill and standing up for women’s rights.
