Target: Steve Van Zant, Sausalito Marin City District Superintendent
Goal: Thank superintendent and school district for providing healthier meals to its students.
In a partnership with the Conscious Kitchen, Sausalito Marin school district in California is now the first, and only, school district in the nation to provide school meals that are 100 percent organic and GMO-free. Rather than poisoning their students with genetically modified, chemically laden foods, this school district is investing in its students, the future of America, and taking a stand against the damage pesticides and GMO food cause the human body and the environment.
In a trial of the program during the 2013-2015 school years, administrators documented a decrease in disciplinary issues and an increase in attendance. The program also includes nutrition and gardening education, making this also about nurturing the students’ minds and creativity.
The meals are also sustainably sourced. This lower impact, environmentally conscious method frequently includes family farms rather than relying on big agriculture. By choosing sustainably sourced, fresh foods, this school district is also helping its local community.
Thank the school district for being the first to invest in the food it serves its students and promoting a healthy, sustainable future.
Dear Mr. Van Zant,
Supporters and advocates of organic, sustainable, GMO-free living are grateful for your bravery in providing such food to the students of your school. It is our hope that you will be a trendsetter as the nation witnesses attendance increase and behavior issues decline. The benefit is not just to your students and community, but to the nation as a whole. The more we take a stand against the pesticides, chemicals, and GMO products that poison us, the less hold they will have in the market place.
We are even more pleased that this program includes education about nutrition and gardening. This knowledge and skill will ensure these students eat healthy, fresh meals into adulthood, and perhaps, some will bring the knowledge home to their parents. Change starts at home, and often with the youngest among us. Rather than teaching the students to pass a standardized test, you’re ensuring that they will have life skills to be healthy and providing them with the tools and knowledge to provide for themselves.
We thank you for making this stand and creating healthier, happier children in your district.
