Target: Andrew Phillip Scipione, Commissioner of New South Wales Police Force
Goal: Arrest and give maximum legal penalty to person who is thought to have purposely run over several wombats.
Several wombats may have been purposely run over. Activists need to take action to better ensure that whoever is responsible for this horrible crime is given the maximum legal penalty so that other animals will be safe from similar tragedies.
Eight deaths have been confirmed, and it has been speculated that two other animals may have been inhumanely killed. It is further thought that some of the wombats that were found dead were nursing mothers. The story is especially sad when one takes into account that joeys, or young wombats, will go back to look for their mothers’ and crawl into their mothers’ pouches even after the animals have died.
Authorities think these wombats may have been run over by a four wheel drive vehicle, as the truck was seen riding in the same area where the bodies of the animals were later found. There were also several tire tracks left near the bodies, which is one reason why officials think they were purposely run over.
Sign this petition and urge officials not only to continue to investigate this case, but to also give the maximum legal penalty to whoever the guilty party ends up being. No animal ever deserves to be run over for either sport or thrill.
Dear Commissioner Scipione,
Officials think that 10 wombats may have been inhumanely run over by someone driving a four wheel drive vehicle. It is important that police continue to investigate this case until the guilty party is found, and it is further important that this person be given the maximum legal penalty in order to better ensure that other animals will be safe.
Unfortunately, some of the animals that were killed were thought to be nursing mothers. This crime is especially horrifying when one considers that joeys, also known as young wombats, are known to crawl back into their dead mothers’ pouches after such a tragedy strikes.
Because this crime was so heartless and horrific, I am requesting that you recommend the person who is found responsible be given the harshest legal penalty, including an $11,000 fine and six months time in jail for hurting these innocent animals. These wombats did not deserve to be savagely run down for no other reason than the fact that they simply existed.
