Target: Massachusetts’ United States Attorney, Carmen M. Ortiz
Goal: Charge teenager with voluntary manslaughter and as an accessory to suicide for allegedly urging her online boyfriend to kill himself.
Conrad Roy was 18 years old when he was found in a Kmart parking lot by police, dead from carbon monoxide inhalation that he filtered into the cabin of his truck using a combustion engine. Throughout the entire previous night, Roy had been in communication with his girlfriend, Michelle Carter, who allegedly sent multiple different text messages urging him to end his life and instructing him through his chosen method of suicide. Messages she sent to Roy allegedly included, “you need to do it,” and “All you have to do is turn the generator on and you will be free and happy,” and she is even accused of giving Roy technical instructions on carbon monoxide asphyxiation.
At one point in the night, according to Carter’s indictment, Conrad called Michelle and stayed on the phone with her for over 40 minutes until he got out of the car because he felt the carbon monoxide effecting him and got scared. Carter then allegedly urged Roy back into the car, where he apparently and unfortunately saw the attempt through to success. This interaction was obviously a purposeful effort to convince Roy to end his own life and push him past his own self-preservation instincts.
Sign the petition below to charge Michelle Carter with voluntary manslaughter and ensure that she faces the strictest penalty available for her crimes.
To U.S. Attorney Ortiz,
Recently, the tragic death of 18-year-old Conrad Roy occurred after he successfully attempted suicide in a parking lot by filtering carbon monoxide into the cabin of his truck. Roy suffered from depression and had struggled with suicidal thoughts for months before the incident, but he didn’t make an attempt until his online girlfriend Michelle Carter allegedly pushed him to kill himself and instructed him specifically on his asphyxiation.
Roy showed significant trepidation over his suicide according to Carter’s indictment, and even left the car while on the phone with Michelle because of his fear. Carter was allegedly able to convince him to get back inside the truck and try again, this time until death. Currently, Carter is under charges of involuntary manslaughter, but Michelle and Conrad’s alleged conversations clearly show her purposeful intentions to end Conrad’s life.
Charge Michelle Carter with voluntary manslaughter and as an accessory to suicide so that she may receive the greatest possible punishment for the tragic loss she helped to cause.
