Target: Robert Califf, Deputy Commissioner for Medical Products and Tobacco
Goal: Shut down the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline that lied about the safety of Paxil for children and does false and illegal marketing of its drugs.
It was found once again that a study funded by the huge pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline was lying about the its drug, Paxil, causing a higher rate of suicide in children. The study claimed the antidepressant was safe and effective for kids, but that just isn’t true.
A reanalysis of the data found that suicide rates were actually much higher in children who took the drug than those taking a placebo. The drug was also barely more effective at treating symptoms of depression, and this slight difference could’ve been due to chance. On top of it all, the company hid the suicide risk of the drug when applying for FDA approval.
But the company has to know this, as it has been involved in numerous major lawsuits about suicide and attempted suicide. GSK has paid an estimated $390 million in penalties from these cases. So how is this company still in business?
But it doesn’t stop there. The company also paid $3 billion in fines one year over false marketing of its products and illegal marketing to children.
It’s obvious that GSK is completely immoral and should not still be operating at a company. There are lives at stake if this company continues to operate. Tell the FDA to shut down GSK for its lies and danger to humanity.
Dear Deputy Commissioner Califf,
At what point does the FDA say enough is enough and take down an evil company? GlaxoSmithKline has lied about its drugs making kids suicidal, used false marketing and illegally marketed to children. What more will it take for this unethical company to no longer be allowed to operate and pose a risk to adults and children?
Not only did the company lie in its study about its drug Paxil having a high rate of making kids suicidal, it completely left out this risk when applying for FDA approval. If it lied about something that huge, what else could it be lying about?
The company has paid billions in fines, and while I know you must love that money, enough is enough. This company poses a huge risk to innocent people who are looking for help in their darkest times. Not only that, but they have a blatant disregard for the lives of children.
This company cannot go on any longer. I urge you to shut down GlaxoSmithKline for its lies and danger to people.
