Justice for Animals Hurt in Shelter Break-In

Target: John Welsh of Riverside County Department of Animals Services

Goal: Demand justice for the animals who were killed and hurt due to an animal shelter break-in situation.

A horrific break-in caused the death of three dogs and 12 other dogs to go missing from an animal shelter in Jurupa Valley in Riverside, California. Authorities believe that someone allegedly broke in to purposely release the animals.

Surveillance footage showed a male figure in dark clothing deliberately breaking the locks of over 20 animal kennel doors at the Riverside County Animal Services’ main shelter in Jurupa Valley. It appears on the footage that the man successfully unlocked fifteen locks with a bolt cutter. Witnesses say that about 48 dogs were found unharmed and wandering around the shelter. By the afternoon, 12 dogs in total were missing. Sadly, two small dogs, a Yorkshire terrier and a Chihuahua were found dead by shelter employees the following morning after the break-in. The Riverside County Animal Services veterinarian examined the dogs and saw that their wounds warranted a closer look. She is planning on performing a full examination on the dogs to provide more details of their deaths. The third dog killed was a German Shepard and it was hit by a car and killed a short distance from the shelter. Authorities are continuing to investigate and review surveillance footage to try and get a clear image of the suspect.

Please sign this petition to seek justice for the animals who were killed and hurt because of this traumatic shelter break-in.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear John Welsh,

Twelve dogs are missing and three dogs have been killed after the Riverside County Animal Services’ main animal shelter experienced a break-in. Police believe that someone broke into the shelter and purposely let all of the animals free. What ever the person’s intentions were, now there are dogs out there that are not getting the necessary care that they needed from the shelter. Worst of all, three dogs were killed because of it.

This crime is highly unusual and has caused a lot of mess to occur at the animal shelter. It is shocking that someone could go into an animal shelter and deliberately force open the animal kennels to release them. It is a very strange situation that has caused a lot of devastation. Hopefully the suspect will be caught and arrested for their crimes against these animals.

Sincerely,

  1. Being that this is a KILL shelter, where most of those dogs would be put down anyway….the BEST justice would be for them to get a HOME.

The more information that comes out, points more to this man being misguided in thinking he was saving the animals. That the two small dogs that died most likely were killed by other dogs not him, and the others are running loose. I’ll be curious what the final outcome will be on his reasoning.

We need reform in our animal shelters… Let’s do away with Kill Shelters and have spaying and neutering your pets be mandatory rather than an option. Let’s outlaw backyard breeders and puppy mills that create our over population problem. Let’s find loving homes for the animals that are currently in our shelters and not create new residents. That is true justice.
