Target: Sylvia Mathews Burwell, Secretary of Health & Human Services
Goal: Cover homeopathic doctors and treatments under health insurance plans.
Currently homeopathic doctors are only recognized as medical practitioners in certain states despite needing many years of training to be qualified. As such, patients must pay out of pocket for this alternative, often life-saving, care. Homeopathic medicine is more than just OTC vitamins and herbs. It is a method of treatment founded centuries ago, based on the principle that our bodies can heal themselves. In Europe and Asia, this type of care is considered part of the mainstream system. In the U.S., it’s still inaccessible to many. This needs to change.
A 2007 survey by the National Health Statistics Report found that adults in the U.S. spent nearly $34 billion out of pocket on alternative care (including homeopathic and holistic medicine.) Because health insurance companies in the U.S. regard this type of care as uncertain at best, patients who desire well-rounded medicine aimed at healing rather than hiding their symptoms are forced to come up with the money for this on their own.
Sign this petition and demand that Ms. Burwell and the Department of Health & Human Services review current regulations regarding consumer paid health care coverage and amend them to include homeopathic practitioners and the accompanying services.
Dear Ms. Burwell,
Americans are currently spending nearly $34 billion in out of pocket health care expenses due to gaps in the laws regulating coverage. Homeopathic medicine is not currently included unless mandated on a state by state basis. In Europe and Asia, this type of care is considered mainstream.
Contrary to popular belief, homeopathic medicine is not just herbs and vitamins. In fact, it is a system of care founded centuries ago based upon the principle that our bodies can heal themselves when given the proper stimulation to do so. Modern day homeopathic practitioners are required to go through many years of rigorous training. They deserve the same rights and respect as M.D.s.
Patients in the U.S. desire greater access to whole body healing. Homeopathic practitioners desire more patients to heal. Help create a healthier America by including homeopathy in insurance regulations.
