Test for Harmful GMOs in Kraft Products

Target: Kraft Foods Executive Chairman, John Cahill

Goal: Test for Genetically Modified Organisms in Kraft Macaroni & Cheese products.

For the last couple of years, Kraft has been under siege for the dangerous ingredients used in the recipe for their Macaroni & Cheese. It began with an image of the warning label on a box of Macaroni & Cheese sold in the United Kingdom that clearly stated that the product may have adverse effects on activity and attention in children and contained genetically modified wheat. The Internet was up in arms, and many disturbed citizens were sharing the material and asking for a widespread boycott of the product. Although some of the original reports about Kraft products have been dispelled, the debate has helped focus public attention on important consumer safety issues.

In response, the legitimacy of the label was crushed with Kraft Foods stating that genetically engineered wheat is not available for commercial use, and that they do not use it in any of their products. They went on to assert that they do not export Macaroni & Cheese to the UK, nor do they have an authorized distributer, and that Innovative Bites (the company distributing the product) was unauthorized to place the sticker on the box and had obtained the boxes through a third party.

So why would the distribution company lie, or needlessly blemish the very goods they are retailing? Chances are that they wouldn’t, and that they had reason to believe and dutifully inform consumers that the wheat in the macaroni products is genetically engineered.

While Kraft has made great strides in refining the recipe for safe consumption, including the recent promise of removing cancer-causing artificial food dyes by January of 2016, they continue to completely deny allegations of using genetically modified wheat. If Kraft Foods truly believes in the quality and safety of their product, targeting this issue should be the next step. By signing the petition below, you will help urge Kraft Foods to have its macaroni products publicly tested for the Genetically Modified Organisms that have come into question, further paving the way for a safe and legal product that is exactly what it claims to be.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chairman Cahill,

As of late, Kraft Foods has been under powerful scrutiny for the ingredients used to produce Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. There was an outrage involving the scandal of an unauthorized label being posted on the product warning of genetically modified wheat and the subsequent risk of attention and activity irregularities in children who consume the macaroni product.

Your company has since promised to remove the artificial dyes that have been proven to cause unwanted side effects including cancer and other deadly diseases, but you continue to vehemently deny any use of GE products that cause equivalent health complications. In a nation that has been recently deceived by Monsanto and other companies involved in the dishonest use of GMOs, it’s unreasonable to take your word alone. We urge you to have your macaroni products publicly tested for these ingredients with the results available for us to see, so that we may finally trust the brand again and feed it to our families without worry.

Sincerely,
