Target: Kamala Harris, California Attorney General
Goal: Applaud the ongoing investigation into the deceptive and misleading practices carried out by the Center for Medical Progress in trying to take down Planned Parenthood.
Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s “Stop Spreading Lies About Planned Parenthood,” the anti-abortion group The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) is facing legal issues after conducting a possibly illegal investigation by using hidden cameras to record conversations with Planned Parenthood employees.
The group released videos claiming that Planned Parenthood aims to profit off selling organs and tissue from aborted fetuses. Planned Parenthood recently released an analysis finding that CMP misleadingly edited the videos to suit their agenda.
In addition to this, CMP will be facing invasion-of-privacy lawsuits, a federal case claiming conspiracy to defraud, and issues surrounding its IRS status as a nonprofit organization. CMP claims it was just using investigative journalism, but independent legal experts weighing in say the tactics that were used certainly set up a court case where CMP could be at fault.
As a previous petition said, if you have to lie to get your point across, you’re doing it wrong. Applaud the steps towards justice and rightful consequences of CMP’s allegedly illegal actions.
Dear Attorney General Kamala Harris,
The Center for Medical Progress, which used hidden cameras to record conversations with Planned Parenthood employees that supposedly showed Planned Parenthood wanting to profit off aborted fetus organs, is facing legal troubles. These include an analysis that says CMP misleadingly edited the videos, invasion-of-privacy lawsuits, a federal case claiming conspiracy to defraud, and issues surrounding CMP’s IRS status as a nonprofit organization.
Starting an illegitimate organization to spread horrific misinformation is disgusting and CMP should be rightfully facing these charges. I applaud the start of these investigations that may achieve justice for all involved.
