Praise McDonald’s for Dropping Allegedly Cruel Poultry Supplier

Target: McDonald’s Chairman Andrew J. McKenna

Goal: Praise McDonald’s for dropping ties with their chicken nugget supplier after a video showed alleged animal cruelty.

McDonald’s Corporation and Tyson Foods both cut ties with a farm from Tennessee because workers were reportedly seen beating and stomping on their chickens. This was discovered in an undercover video released by animal rights activists who visited the facilities.

Mercy For Animals, a nonprofit animal rights organization based in Chicago, revealed the video footage at a news conference. The video showed horrific animal cruelty toward the chickens specifically at the T&S Farm in Dukedom, Tennessee, which was contracted by Tyson Foods. Tyson Foods supplies chicken meat to the world’s biggest fast-food chain, McDonald’s. McDonald’s used the meat primarily for their chicken nuggets.

Tyson Foods representatives stated that they terminated the farmer’s contracts to raise chicken for them because they do not tolerate the unacceptable treatment of animals that they saw in the video. McDonald’s states that the company supports Tyson’s decision and agree that the alleged behaviors of the farmers were simply unacceptable. McDonald’s is now working with Tyson Food to investigate the situation.

In early 2015, McDonald’s phased out using chickens raised with antibiotics at all of its American stores. To go along with that plan, they have now terminated a relationship with a farm for treating their chickens inhumanely. Please sign this petition to thank McDonald’s for cutting ties with a farm with alleged inhumane farming methods.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Andrew J. McKenna,

Your company, McDonald’s, has been thrown a lot of curve balls this year. In the beginning of the year, you abandoned using chickens raised with antibiotics in your U.S. stores. In August 2015, it was discovered by animal activists that your contracted chicken farm suppliers in Tennessee had allegedly been abusing their chickens. You have now cut all ties with them as well. It is great to see that you are not tolerating the unacceptable treatment of animals.

Thank you for taking initiative and making the humane treatment of animals a priority for your company. An animal’s wellbeing should always be first priority no matter what. No animal deserves to be stomped on and beaten down. Hopefully, losing the support of a company like yours will help them realize that the way they reportedly ran their farm was completely wrong. Thank you for terminating the farmer’s contract to grow chicken for your company.

Sincerely,

  1. I do not believe that animals should be eaten in any form, as happy as I am to see that you will not continue contracting with these horrible people, I can’t understand why you will not have vegan options as that is the most humane thing you could do, regardless of how they are raise, they are all still inhumanely slaughtered. Maybe consider vegan options as there is nothing you offer that I can order other than french fries. Having said that, thank you for taking the undercover work of Mercy For Animals seriously and responding in a way that will hurt the farmer the most. I appreciate that about your company very much. Hopefully you stick to your guns and never return to them to renegotiate a contract, I hope the tie is cut permanently.
