Target: Charlton H. Bonham, Director of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife

Goal: Applaud the return of gray wolves to California and the policies pending to protect them.

Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Help Ensure the Future of Gray Wolves in California, five gray wolf cubs and two adult wolves have been spotted in California. This marks the first time the species has called California home since 1924.

Only one other gray wolf was confirmed in California since the species was driven out. That wolf, known as OR7, has moved on and is now in southern Oregon. Gray wolves became listed as an endangered species under the California Endangered Species Act last year and is also listed as endangered under the Federal Endangered Species Act of 1973, making it illegal to “harass, harm, pursue, hunt, shoot, wound, kill, trap, capture, or collect wolves.”

California officials are currently discussing how the wolves will be protected and managed now that they’re back in the state.

Although some hunters have fought these protections, they have ultimately remained, and these policies could be the reason we are now seeing these beautiful creatures return to where they once called home.

Sign this petition to applaud the return of gray wolves to California and the policies pending to protect them.

That is some good news to hear. We still have lots and lots of actions to take to give these wolves a fighting chance, and to keep the protections that they need to survive maintained, which is very important.
