Target: Ashton Carter, CEO of the U.S. Department of Defense

Goal: Praise the admittance and graduation of the first female soldiers of the Army Ranger School, the premier small unit leadership course for the infantry and other front-line troops.

Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Demand Equality for Women in the Military, the first female soldiers are set to graduate from the honorable Army Ranger School, where troops train for infantry and other front-line operations. The course became open to women on an experimental basis earlier in the year.

This marks part of the military’s ongoing efforts to open front-line combat units to women and provide equal opportunities for men and women in the military. The Department of Defense has said it will keep working towards this objective without compromising the regular standards of the military.

Army Secretary John McHugh spoke positively of the milestone, citing that it proved every soldier, regardless of gender, could reach his or her potential. This is a huge step in the right direction towards making it so there are equal opportunities in the military.

Praise the admittance and graduation of the first female soldiers of the Army Ranger School with hopes of more milestones such as this in the future.
