Target: Executive Director of Hamptons International Film Festival, Anne Chaisson
Goal: Praise the addition of a category dedicated to animal rights in the Hamptons International Film Festival.
The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) is dedicating a category to animal rights called “Compassion, Justice & Animal Rights.” 2015 is the first year that the festival has dedicated an entire category to the plight of animals.
This is not exactly a surprising move for the Hamptons International Film Festival. While this may be the first year that they have dedicated a category to animal rights, organizers have incorporated animal rights films such as Emptying the Skies and Virunga, both of which are documentaries about the lives of mountain gorillas and songbirds. The turnout for the documentaries were massive and the Q&A sessions at the end were so engaging that organizers decided to highlight animal rights even more.
According to their website, the program will allow filmmakers “to share meaningful information, stories of inspiration and tools for creating a safe and humane world for animals.” The upcoming festival this year will feature three films about animal rights, including a film called The Champions, which focuses on the lives of pit bulls after being rescued from NFL quarterback Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring.
Dedicating an entire category to animal rights will educate viewers and allow them to make more compassionate choices in how we treat animals every day. It will also help encourage people to stand up for animals who do not have voices to stand up for themselves. Many of us do not realize the hardships that animals face on a day-to-day basis and it is great that this category will help bring these issues to light.
Addressing the injustice that many animals suffer can only occur when others are aware of the problems that they face and HIFF is helping to raise this awareness. Please sign the petition below and thank them for adding an animal rights category to this year’s festival.
Dear Anne Chaisson,
I would like to thank you and your staff at the Hamptons International Film Festival for your decision to dedicate an entire category to animal rights. This will help raise awareness for the plight of animals.
After seeing the audience react to previous animal rights films with enthusiasm, your team at HIFF listened and will no doubt encourage more dialogue when it comes to animal rights. Educating mainstream audiences on the suffering of animals will help spur them into action and stop taking a passive stance when it comes to animal rights. This is the first step towards making the lives of animals better.
Thank you for not only listening to your audience, but also for doing your part in making this world a better place for animals. Please continue allowing HIFF to feature such films and encourage dialogue that will help this movement grow.
