Praise Athlete’s Pledge to Send Over 1000 Kids to College

Target: LeBron James

Goal: Praise initiative to provide 1100 hard-working students with full college scholarships.

Professional basketball player LeBron James recently pledged to fund the college educations of 1100 children currently enrolled in his “I Promise” program, an initiative in which Akron, Ohio students are recognized for exceptional work in their studies, attendance, and extra-curricular activities. The program targets the local community from which James hails in order to promote the betterment of students in the area, who suffer a poverty rate seven percent higher than the state average.

The offer requires students currently enrolled in the program, who range from third to seventh graders, to keep their marks and attendance up throughout their elementary, middle, and high school years as well as fulfill community service requirements. Successful students will receive a four-year scholarship to the University of Akron, saving them nearly $40,000 in total tuition costs.

This initiative will give children whose families may not otherwise  be able to afford college tuition a fair chance at attaining a post-secondary degree. By expecting students to earn the scholarship by meeting strict attendance and grade requirements, the program teaches the value of hard work and dedication. By improving the educational prospects of so many children in the Akron area, James is investing in the future success of the entire city and its future generations.

LeBron’s new initiative has the potential to help hundreds of students, particularly considering the high and still-rising costs of post-secondary education. Sign the petition below to thank him for using his success to help others in his community, and applaud him for choosing such a great cause.

Dear Mr. LeBron James,

The LeBron James Family Foundation recently announced that in partnership with the University of Arkon, it will be providing scholarships to over 1000 students involved in the “I Promise” program. In order to qualify, students must keep good grades, high test scores, and consistent attendance as well as fulfill community service requirements. This new program will not only benefit inner-city children who might not otherwise be able to go to college, but will improve the entire community of Arkon.

This initiative, which empowers the next generation to become hard workers and dedicated learners, could have effects for generations to come. We, the undersigned, thank you for using your success to positively contribute to the lives of hundreds of underprivileged children.
