Don’t Murder Bear for Defending Her Cubs

Target: Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Dan Wenk

Goal: Don’t murder bear that allegedly attacked and killed a hiker in Yellowstone National Park.

A hiker was found dead at a popular off-trail area in Yellowstone National Park. The cause of death has not been officially determined, however it was reported that the victim had defensive wounds on his forearms and his body was partially eaten and covered.

Park officials reported that tracks found at the scene left them to believe a female grizzly bear and at least one cub were involved in the attack. Bear traps have been set in the area, and if any bears are trapped and found to have been involved in the attack, they will be killed.

Many animal activists are citing that the female grizzly was probably a mother that acted in defense of her cub(s). Some are wondering if it was possible the hiker was standing between the mother and her cub(s). Questions have arisen as to whether or not the hiker had bear spray, made noise to ward off the bear, or should not have been hiking alone.

Although this is a horrific tragedy, it’s not fair that a bear will be murdered for possibly acting in defense when a human was in bear country. Urge officials to drop the mission to murder a bear that allegedly attacked a hiker.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Superintendent Dan Wenk,

A hiker was found dead at a popular off-trail area in Yellowstone National Park, and although the cause of death has not been officially determined, you and other officials believe he was attacked by a bear.

I urge you to drop the mission to murder a bear that allegedly attacked a hiker.

Sincerely,
