Reinstate Teacher Allegedly Fired for Being Pregnant and Female

Pregnant Woman

Target: Northwest Christian University President Dr. Joseph Womack

Goal: Rehire a female teacher who was reportedly fired for becoming pregnant and refusing to marry or leave the father.

A woman was allegedly fired from a university after refusing an ultimatum to marry or leave the father of her child after she became pregnant. According to the lawsuit, the Northwest Christian University said that by becoming pregnant out of wedlock and refusing to call it a “mistake” or immediately marry the father, she’s going against their “core values” and setting a bad example for her students.

What makes this such a clear case of gender discrimination is the fact that there are multiple male teachers employed by the University who have children yet are unmarried. This means that the Northwest Christian University is setting the example for their students which says that men are allowed to have children without marrying, but if a woman does the same, she’s doing something bad and immoral.

It’s bad enough for any employer to try and force their own morals upon an employee and then fire them when it turns out that they have a differing opinion. This, however, is also a clear-cut case of gender discrimination that has no place in our modern society. Sign our petition to demand that Coty Richardson be immediately reinstated to her position and that the University apologizes for its sexist actions.

Dear Dr. Womack,

Recently, a female teacher, Ms. Coty Richardson, was allegedly fired from your University because she became pregnant and refused your demands that she either marry the father of the child or dissociate with him and proclaim the pregnancy a “mistake.” The lawsuit currently being filed against NCU says that when she declined to do either, she was suddenly dismissed from her position.

If the allegations are true, this is a clear case of gender discrimination. It’s come to light that you employ multiple male educators who are fathers yet are unmarried and still associate with the mothers of their children. If you’re not willing to also fire these men, then your decision to fire Ms. Richardson is an act of sexism that has no place in our society.

You should not be ruining a woman’s career and taking away her livelihood at a time when she needs it simply because she refused to bow to your moral code. She is allowed to have her own morals and what she does with her body in her personal life is none of your business. We demand that you immediately reinstate Ms. Richardson to her former position and issue an immediate apology for your misogynistic actions.
