Success: Planned Parenthood Funding Saved

Target: Senator Barbara Boxer of California

Goal: Applaud officials who took a stand for Planned Parenthood and voted to stop a bill that would defund the organization.

Thanks in part to petitions like ForceChange’s Support Legislation that would Preserve Planned Parenthood Funding and Don’t Cut Funding to Planned Parenthood, a bill in the Senate aimed at stopping federal funding to Planned Parenthood failed by a 53-46 vote.

This issue has been a heated debate for many years but has become an especially pressing topic after anti-abortion protestors released a video of a Planned Parenthood executive speaking about the organization giving fetal tissue from abortions to research. The protestors claim Planned Parenthood is profiting and selling the fetal tissue, when in fact it’s not. It simply receives money back to cover the costs.

While we can certainly celebrate this victory, the issue will be revisited when Congress returns from its recess in the fall. Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards says she feels bills like the ones that just got shut down won’t gain true political traction, and that the organization is prepared for any battles ahead.

Applaud this temporary victory towards defending women’s rights and thank the officials who took a stand for Planned Parenthood.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator Barbara Boxer,

A recent bill in the Senate aimed at stopping federal funding to Planned Parenthood failed by a 53-46 vote, and I would like to thank you for being a part of the reason it failed. The anti-abortion smear campaign against this incredibly helpful organization is absolutely ridiculous, and we cannot allow these people to win.

I would like to applaud this victory towards defending women’s rights and thank you and others who took a stand for Planned Parenthood.

Sincerely,
