Success: No More Animal Slaughter at Nepal Festival

Target: Ram Chandra Shah, Chairman of Nepal’s Gadhimai Temple Trust

Goal: Applaud the announcement that no animals will be slaughtered at this year’s festival, which is the largest animal sacrifice in the world.

Nepal’s Gadhimai Temple Trust announced there will be no animal slaughtering at this year’s festival, which normally is the largest animal slaughter and sacrifice in the world and occurs every five years. This action is thanks to petitions like ForceChange’s End the World’s Largest Animal Sacrifice, as well as others who contributed to an international outcry.

Prior to the announcement, the Indian Supreme Court prohibited animals from being taken across the border to be used in the festival thanks to this international outcry, showing that working as activists truly can make a difference.

The Humane Society International/India (HSI) estimates that more than 500,000 goats, chickens and buffaloes, and other animals were decapitated at the most recent festival in Gadhimai.

“With your help, we can ensure the festival in 2019 is free from bloodshed,” chairman of the temple trust Ram Chandra Shah said in a statement announcing the ban. “Moreover, we can ensure Gadhimai 2019 is a momentous celebration of life.”

By signing this petition, you will thank officials for banning this inhumane act and applaud that all of these innocent animals will be saved.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ram Chandra Shah,

Nepal’s Gadhimai Temple Trust announced there will be no animal slaughtering at this year’s festival. The Humane Society International/India (HSI) estimates that more than 500,000 goats, chickens, buffaloes, and other animals were decapitated at the most recent festival in Gadhimai.

Saving the lives of animals and recognizing that a longstanding tradition is not humane is a majorly progressive step, and we can now hope that similar traditions will follow in your footsteps. Thank you for banning this inhumane act, and I applaud that all of these animals will be saved.

Sincerely,
