Prevent Murders Like One Caused by Road Rage in Florida

Target: Terry L. Rhodes, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles

Goal: Implement education to inform and instruct on road rage so that more people aren’t murdered from road rage-related incidents.

Dispatchers at 911 around North Florida received calls from two ends of a road rage incident that left one man shot dead. The wife of Candelario Gonzalez, 44, called police as her husband reportedly followed Robert Eric Doyle, 51, through Beverly Hills, Fla. Doyle was also on the line with police, allegedly telling them he had his gun “cocked and loaded” because “some maniac” was apparently trying to run him off the road.

Gonzalez’s wife reportedly told police that it was actually Doyle who was the aggressive driver and that her husband was simply trying to follow him to get Doyle’s address and file a complaint.

“They’re following me to my house. I’ll be there in 20 seconds; the guns are already out,” Doyle said to the dispatcher.

Once they arrived home, Doyle allegedly fired five shots, killing Gonzalez. These kind of incidents aren’t rare in Florida. Many can remember the high-profile case of Michael Dunn who shot and killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis over playing loud music in his car. Something must be done to prevent this. Urge Florida officials to implement education to inform and instruct on road rage so that more people aren’t murdered from road rage-related incidents.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Terry L. Rhodes,

Dispatchers at 911 around North Florida received calls from two ends of a road rage incident that left one man shot dead. The wife of Candelario Gonzalez, 44, called police as her husband reportedly followed Robert Eric Doyle, 51, through Beverly Hills, Fla. Once they arrived home, Doyle allegedly fired five shots, killing Gonzalez, all because of road rage.

These kind of incidents aren’t rare in Florida, and something must be done to prevent this. I urge you to implement education to inform and instruct on road rage so that more people aren’t murdered from road rage-related incidents.

Sincerely,
