Target: Poland President Andrzrej Duda
Goal: Stop investors from building a new dolphinarium in Poland.
Investors are planning to build a brand new dolphinarium in Mszczonów, Poland, a neighbor of the capital city, Warsaw. In early 2015, a Warsaw-based company decided to purchase about 5,500 square meters of land near the largest local tourist attraction with intentions of turning it into a dolphinarium in 2017.
The land will be used to build thermal pools, one outdoor and one indoor, for the dolphins they plan to house there. The facility is planning to house four dolphins that were born into captivity from Ukraine. The investor, The Polish Center for Education and Sea Conservation, states that the main purpose of this facility will be dolphin-assisted therapy, education, and entertainment.
Although investors believe that the dolphinarium will bring a lot of capital to the city, the new project has been hit with a lot of skepticism and controversy since its announcement in early 2015. The opinions and comments about the project have spanned from Poland to countries overseas.
The main and biggest concern is that the dolphinarium is promoting dolphin exploitation, which has been a reoccurring conversation regarding any theme park or facility that involves animals. Campaigns have been launched that aimed to stop the construction of the dolphinarium and to educate Poland citizens about the dangers of dolphin captivity. They are also highlighting the suffering that the animals have to endure while being housed in these types of facilities.
Poland has never had a dolphinarium before and it does not need one now. Please sign this petition to ask that the investors put a halt on their plans to build a dolphinarium.
Dear President Bronisław Komorowski,
New investment plans are being carried out to build a dolphinarium in the city of Mszczonów, Poland. They are planning on housing four dolphins at the facilities and using the dolphinarium to educate and entertain the residents of Mszczonów. Dolphins should never be kept in an aquarium or theme park for entertainment purposes. They should be free to live in the ocean and only be admired by humans from afar.
Through the efforts of animal activists, concerned citizens, and educational groups, we hope that plans to build the dolphinarium will be put to an end and there will continue to be no dolphins kept in captivity in Poland.
