Target: Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico
Goal: Punish the previous mayor of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, for allegedly using taxpayers’ money for his own interests.
The former mayor of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is facing 499 criminal charges that he accrued during his time as mayor from 1982 to 2010. Stephen Reed allegedly abused his power as mayor to use public money that was allotted for things like renovations and education to buy antiques and other items for his own interests. Former mayor Stephen Reed must be prosecuted for his actions, and a more effective system of monitoring the mayor’s actions should be implemented.
Being the mayor is a powerful and highly respected position. The townspeople who elected Stephen Reed as mayor did so because they believed he was worthy of the position and believed he would act in the public’s general interest. Former mayor Stephen Reed unfortunately did not completely live up to the respectable position that he was elected to, and Reed must now face the consequences. His criminal charges include bribery, theft, fraud, and numerous other charges.
By signing the petition below, you are urging District Attorney Ed Marsico to push for a conviction of former Mayor Stephen Reed for all the atrocities he allegedly committed through abusing his power as mayor. Reed allegedly diverted the city’s money to make excessive purchases of articles for his own interests, and he must now face the consequences for his crimes.
Dear Attorney Marsico,
I am writing to you on account of former Mayor Stephen Reed facing 499 criminal charges stemming from his alleged abuse of power while in place as mayor of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, from 1982 to 2010. Reed’s alleged criminal acts of stealing and using the town’s money to purchase items such as guns and antiques is quite shocking to read about, and even more unbelievable given the number of years that Reed allegedly committed these crimes.
Furthermore, the fact that Stephen Reed served as mayor for almost three decades and got away with abusing the allocation of the public’s money indicates that there are critical issues with checking the mayor’s power. In addition to properly prosecuting Reed, please also look into getting a more effective system of checking the mayor’s power. Measures should be placed to prevent any future problems that may arise from a mayor abusing his or her power.
Please push to make sure former mayor Stephen Reed is appropriately punished for these outrageous actions if he is found to be guilty. Reed’s alleged abuse of power and actions of stealing the city’s tax dollars to fund his own interests, especially in light of the bankrupt status of the City of Harrisburg, are inexcusable.
