Target: Prime Minister of Denmark Lars Løkke Rasmussen
Goal: Congratulate Denmark for generating a surplus of renewable wind energy.
On Thursday July 9th 2015, so much power was produced by Denmark’s wind farms because of an unusually windy day that it surpassed its own electricity demand and had such a surplus left over that it was able to export electricity to support the demands of Norway, Sweden, and Germany. At one point the following morning, Denmark was able to meet 140 percent of the its electricity needs. This is an exciting breakthrough for the country because it now knows that it is possible to power itself with clean renewable energy.
Oliver Joy, speaking for the European Wind Energy Association, spoke of the significance of Denmark’s energy surplus for the sake of not only the country itself, but the rest of the world, saying that “It shows that a world powered by 100 percent renewable energy is no fantasy. Wind energy and renewable resources can be a solution to decarbonisation- and also security of supply at times of demand.”
By investing in renewable energy, mostly in wind farm installations, Denmark has seemingly led the way in clean technology, serving as an example to other nations on how teach reach renewable energy goals well before their target dates. In fact, according to The Guardian, “Denmark could be producing half of its electricity from renewable sources well before a target date of 2020.”
Nations around the world need to be proactive about clean energy as Denmark has. Sign this petition to congratulate the country and the prime minister and also to show your support in protecting the environment and the planet.
Dear Prime Minister of Denmark Lars Løkke Rasmussen,
I am writing this letter to you to congratulate your country for recently producing so much power from the renewable wind energy that it was possible to export the surplus energy to Sweden, Germany, and Norway.
By investing in wind farms and clean energy, you and your country has shown the world that it is possible to protect the environment without hurting the economy while simultaneously adding jobs across the country. I hope other nations around the world follow Denmark’s extraordinary example in leading the way of sustainable energy.
Thank you for making the cleanliness of the earth a priority. This is a huge first step in making the world a more sustainable and environmentally friendly place.
