Target: Christopher Melly, Judge, Clallam County, Washington

Goal: Issue a warrant for the arrest of the man who was reported to have several animal carcasses on his property.

A man from Sequim, Washington has been charged with alleged animal cruelty after neighbors called authorities about mysterious animal carcasses found on his property. Although he was charged, he has not been arrested.

The Clallam County attorney’s office has filed misdemeanor animal cruelty charges against John Dashti. The authorities have been investigating allegations of animal abuse at a property nearby Sequim after being informed by neighbors that reported seeing several animal carcasses left to rot at the location. Their owner now faces two charges of animal cruelty in the second degree. “Animal cruelty in the second degree” means that he was recklessly inflicting unnecessary suffering to the animals in his care.

John Dashti has not been arrested and a court date has not been set for him. In June 2015, multiple incidents occurred including the confiscation of a few animals from his property. According to criminal complaints, the charges were for allegedly failing to provide necessary medical care for two donkeys that were in his possession. Authorities also later uncovered a dead pig on his property. Investigators are waiting on the results from the necropsy of the pig before they take any further steps. Police are saying that Dashti could receive a fine of up to $20,000 and face up to 10 years in jail.

Please sign this petition to ask Clallam County to arrest this man for allegedly abusing the animals in his care.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Judge Melly,

We applaud Clallam County officials for taking immediate action after receiving word that suspicious activity was occurring at John Dashti’s home. Officers were able to seize almost all of his animals, which included a few goats, donkeys, pigs, and a dog, and take them in for review. This man received numerous complaints by neighbors who noticed that the animals that were under his care appeared to be malnourished and kept in filthy conditions.

We are thankful that the county took the necessary steps in order to charge this man with animal cruelty of the second degree. The next step is to arrest and punish him for treating his animals in this manner. No animal should have to suffer at the hands of an irresponsible owner. Thankfully, Dashti’s neighbors and the people who noticed what was going on his property alerted the authorities about what they saw. They have saved the lives of so many animals. Please issue a warrant for this callous man’s arrest.

Sincerely,

  1. I hate to think how much these animals suffered at the hands of this sociopath, John Dashti! Most likely, they would have all died, if neighbors hadn’t called the authorities. Sadly, despite knowing that the animals were malnourished and kept in filthy conditions, no actions were taken sooner to prevent misery and before deaths occurred. Make certain that this monster receives the maximum penalty and fine for his sadistic treatment of innocent animals!
