Target: President of the United State Barack Obama
Goal: Thank the administration for working to ensure women can get birth control coverage.
All women now will be able to get coverage for all forms of birth control because of the Affordable Care Act thanks to a new rule that was issued by United States President Barack Obama’s administration’s Department of Health and Human Services. Despite religious exemptions that was provided by the Supreme Court’s ruling of Burrell versus Hobby Lobby that ruled that corporations have the right to freely practice their religion without “undue burden,” this new rule ensures free birth control for all.
With these new regulations, employers with religious objections to providing employees with birth control coverage in their health plans must contact the insurance company or the federal government so that female employees and anyone who was a female family member who is on their partners’ insurance plan will get birth control coverage through their place of employment. There will also be no additional costs imposed on an employee’s health insurance.
This is a huge victory for activists and women across the nation who have pushed to receive birth control coverage through their work. Now women who could not afford birth control if their employer refused to include it in the health care plan because of religious reasons will be able to have access to it if they need it. This decision by Obama’s administration reaffirms a woman’s right to choose if and when they start a family. Finally, it symbolizes that women have control over their bodies–not a religion, not their employers, and not a corporation.

Dear President Obama,
I am writing this letter to you and your administration to praise the decision that allows all women to access all forms of birth control even if their employer objects to it on religious grounds, all due to the Affordable Care Act.
With one in five women relying on Planned Parenthood in their lifetime, it is extremely important that they can access birth control without having to worry about the cost.
Without birth control covered by a health care plan, women would not be able to access more opportunities to further their career or receive an education. Thank you for believing in the notion that only women themselves should be able to decide what is best for their life and their bodies, not their employers.
