Target: Hannah Song, President and CEO of Liberty in North Korea
Goal: Applaud an organization that helps North Korean refugees find freedom.
One organization is helping refugees escape the totalitarian grip of North Korea and reach freedom. Liberty in North Korea helps escapees in their journey and helps them build new lives. When people attempt to escape the regime, they often attempt to cross the Chinese border. Unfortunately, if they are caught in China, authorities may deport them back to North Korea, where they face the horrors of the labor camps or execution. Liberty in North Korea is an organization that helps to move North Korean refugees along escape routes and into safe territory. Once they are safe, the organization helps them to build new lives and integrate themselves into the free world. These kinds of organizations are badly needed, since the human rights situation in North Korea is one of the worst in the world.
The North Korean regime is responsible for some of the most heinous human rights abuses in modern times. It would not be much of an exaggeration to put them on par with Nazi Germany. Rights that we exercise on a daily basis in the free world can mean a death sentence in North Korea. Practicing religion is an offense punishable by public execution, as is the viewing of any type of media that is not state approved. These are not gentle executions either—the regime has been known to use such grisly methods as feeding victims to ravenous dogs, shooting them with anti-aircraft guns, and burning them to death by flame thrower. Children are brought up in a system where they are systematically brainwashed into believing that the leaders of their country are almost godlike, and that they are responsible for all the prosperity of the country, despite rampant starvation and poverty. Life in North Korea is hell on Earth.

Dear Hannah Song,
I recently heard about the incredible work that Liberty in North Korea is doing to help refugees escape the horrendous conditions in the country, and I would like to thank you for these efforts. As you are well aware, the human rights situation in North Korea is horrendous. There are few words to describe how awful and pointless the life of a North Korean is; they are subjected to tremendous amounts of brutality and are deprived of their most basic human rights.
The people of North Korea can empower themselves, but they need help in order to do so. I hope that you will continue in your efforts to save North Korean refugees. Thank you for your commitment to this worthwhile cause.
