Release Captive Monkeys to Sanctuary

Target: Producer Jerry Bruckheimer

Goal: Move monkeys from movie set to proper zoological environment.

A makeup artist was recently bitten on the ear by a monkey that is thought to be one of the animals cast in the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. People will continue to get bitten if these animals are not moved to a proper sanctuary.

The monkey that allegedly bit the woman was a Capuchin monkey, and these monkeys are thought by scientists to only be capable of developing the maturity level of up to a five-year-old child. Expecting any monkey to behave beyond such a maturity level is simply unreasonable. Monkeys should not be placed in situations where they are given the opportunity to bite people. Zookeepers at reputable zoos do not even go inside enclosures with these animals as they know monkeys will instinctively behave as animals and not how they would like them to behave.

Sign this petition and encourage the people in charge of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie to move the monkeys they are using in this film to a proper sanctuary and to further replace all animals they would like to use for future films with computer generated ones. Continuing to use these monkeys for human purposes is selfish, as monkeys should simply be allowed to be monkeys and nothing else.

Dear Mr. Bruckheimer,

A Capuchin monkey recently bit a makeup artist on a movie set. If the monkeys continue to be used for human purposes instead of being placed in a sanctuary where they will be able to simply act like animals, more people will likely also get bitten.

Capuchin monkeys–at best–have a maturity level of a five-year-old child. Placing monkeys in an unnatural environment oftentimes ensures that these animals will act out in the same way that a child would while having a temper tantrum. Expecting them to behave any differently is ridiculous, as monkeys should be in an environment where they are able to act like animals and not in one where they are expected to perform as humans.

For all of these reasons, I urge you to place the monkeys you are using to work on the Pirates of Caribbean set in a suitable sanctuary and to also replace them and all other animals in future films with computer generated creatures. While it is horrible a person was bitten by a monkey, monkeys will act like monkeys no matter the environment in which they are placed.
