Punish Fraternity for Hazing Death

pi-kappa-phi-by-ammodramus

Target: Mark Timmes, CEO of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity

Goal: Stop hazing in your chapters and rightfully help the family of the member who was allegedly hazed to his death.

Armando Villa, a 19-year-old pledge of the fraternity Pi Kappa Phi at California State University, Northridge, died after allegedly being hazed by being forced to buy shoes that were too small for him and hike up a peak on a hot summer day in Angeles National Forest.

Villa and the other pledges ran out of water on the way back down, causing some of the men to become dehydrated and disoriented. It was reported that Villa ran ahead and collapsed to his death in a culvert. Now Villa’s family is suing California State University, Northridge and Pi Kappa Phi for negligence in the death of their son.

The school isn’t taking any responsibility for Villa’s death, despite that fact that it ultimately governs over and regulate its student organizations. However, an investigative report did find that the fraternity members participated in hazing.

Villa’s death comes in a time where issues with fraternities are a hot topic, and hazing deaths seem to be all too common. We can only imagine the sadness Villa’s family feels knowing their son’s life is no longer fully ahead of him, and he is no longer with them over something as heartless as hazing. Demand Pi Kappa Phi take responsibility for Armando Villa’s death, stop hazing in its chapters, and pay the Villa family for the heartbreak it has caused them.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mark Timmes,

Armando Villa, a 19-year-old pledge of your fraternity at California State University, Northridge, died after allegedly being hazed by being forced to buy shoes that were too small for him and hike up a peak on a hot summer day in Angeles National Forest.

An investigative report did find that the fraternity members participated in hazing, and hazing deaths seem to be all too common for fraternities these days. It’s time for this to come to a stop and for you and other fraternities to take responsibility for being so reckless and taking innocent lives. I urge you and the fraternity to take responsibility for Armando Villa’s death, stop hazing in chapters, and pay the Villa family for the heartbreak your organization has caused them.

Sincerely,
